You probably don’t know this but our Awakened Life Yoga School office is right near Clearwater, Florida. When I told a friend where we had moved, she said “oh, I love that name of Clearwater, how interesting to put those two words together!” How easily we can apply that to the effort we put into our practices of yoga, meditation and other spiritual work. Settling our mind through meditation so we are fluid and clear.
Most teachers who I have trained or studied with have always said the same truth in different ways. This “clear state” isn’t a dream, a goal or objective that we strive towards, rather this “clear-water” state of mind is our natural gift as a human being. It’s already existing in us only to be discovered, or even better said, uncovered under many layers of negative conditioning, traumatic situations and habitual tendencies we’ve picked up over the years. Call them habits. Call it neurosis. Call it what you will, but it dirties the water and makes things unclear, and we get stuck.
As I sit here and see the twinkling of sun on the waves, the blue-green hue of the water, and a variety of boats gliding effortlessly in the water I am reminded that all is really okay. Yes, I have much to do in this yoga school training business. I have problems to face, some pretty serious. I have a sick and aging mother, and pets who have passed recently. I worry about money. I fret about the future. Yet, looking at this clear-water, I can be assured that I also have basic goodness inside of me, my mind is naturally calm, and my life is free.
