We don’t often think about the quality of our touch or the impact it has on the person who receives it. And yet, it’s a beautiful gift that teaching yoga offers us – the opportunity to touch others in a way that energetically communicates support and encouragement. To touch in a way that doesn’t “correct” or subtly criticize. To touch in a way that isn’t invasive or “poking” at someone.
Yoga adjustments that are skillfully delivered can be incredibly transformative for people. In fact, it’s one reason why so many of us love going to classes. To be seen, to connect, and to be in a safe space that allows us to let go even a little bit more.
At Awakened Life, we spend a good amount of time teaching you how to use adjustments to provide a nurturing, supportive experience for your students. You learn how to become conscious, aware, and present when you touch, so that you can pass on lightness, ease and self-acceptance. And with all of the turmoil and difficulty and pain in the world right now, those are really nice things to be able to pass on!
Here’s to using our role as yoga teachers to help make the world a little more relaxed, a little more at ease, a little more joyful. See you on the mat!
