Vivid, straightforward and playful instruction define Laurel’s teaching style. She presents yoga as a potent, down-to-earth tool to live with joyful embodiment. Laurel inspires students to adventure into themselves, to smile at intensity and to possess a sense of adventure toward the unknown. With gusto, she shares her passion and curiosity for the nuts and bolts of human movement and the complexity and mystery of the human form.
Originally from the small town of Friendship, Wisconsin, Laurel made her way to New York City as an actress. In the process of exploring her craft, she discovered yoga.
Today, Laurel teaches yoga in both English and Spanish all over the world. A 200 and 500-hour level teacher trainer, mentor and anatomy teacher for YogaWorks, Laurel guides aspiring yoga teachers to reach their fullest potential. She is also a Yoga Tune Up® teacher offering classes and workshops in self-massage and yoga therapy. A collaborating developer of the YogaWorks Teacher Training curriculum, Laurel co-authored the 200-hour level Practice Teaching manual. Her anatomy articles have appeared in Yoga Life, Women’s Health and Fitness and the Yoga Tune Up blog.
Her passion for learning about the human body recently led her to take part in a week-long cadaver dissection workshop with Gil Hedley of Integral Anatomy.
When she’s not teaching or dissecting, Laurel can be found spending time with her husband, baby and two kitties in their neighborhood of Washington Heights, Manhattan. She also enjoys lifting weights at the gym as cross-training for asana and is studying to become a physical therapist!
